RP inflation rate rises 6.1%

MANILA (AFP): Philippine consumer prices rose 6.1 percent from
a year earlier in December, compared to 6.5 percent in the
previous month, the official National Statistics Office said
Monday.

This brought the average inflation rate for 1997 to 5.1
percent, compared to 8.4 percent for the whole of 1996, the
government agency said in a statement.
