RP death toll from typhoon at 163

MANILA (AFP): At least 163 people were killed when Typhoon
Utor hit the Philippines last week, with 180 others injured and
60 still missing, the civil defense office said in a summary
report on Wednesday.

Most of the deaths and injuries took place in the northern
mountain provinces hit by landslides in the main island of Luzon
when Utor unleashed her fury on July 4 to 5.

The report also said that 1,091,943 people were displaced by
the typhoon with a total damage to agriculture, infrastructure
and private property at 1.821 billion pesos (US$34.4 million),
the office said.

This included more than 40,000 houses that were damaged and
two bridges and four roads that are still collapsed or washed
out.
