RP calls for fuel conservation
MANILA: The Philippine government on Tuesday urged the public
to practice fuel conservation amid continued increases in the
world prices of crude oil and petroleum products.
Energy Secretary Vicente Perez issued the call after oil
companies implemented a new round of price increases.
"I urge everyone to start fuel conservation," he said. "Any
single cent saved from planning trips or employing efficient
driving tips will have a big contribution in the family's
budget."
Perez also reminded consumers to "exercise their power of
choice" in their fuel purchases, noting that some oil companies
were selling their products at lower prices. Transport groups
have already warned they would ask for higher adjustments in
fares if oil companies continue to increase their prices. -- DPA
