MANILA (AFP): The Philippines' main business groups will
campaign for proposed amendments to the constitution by
conducting "road shows" outside the capital, the presidential
palace said on Thursday.

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the
Employers Confederation of the Philippines will hold the first
roadshows in the cities of Cebu and Baguio to "drum up support
and create awareness" of the need for constitutional amendments,
a palace statement said.

This would be in support of President Joseph Estrada's plan to
convene Congress into a constituent assembly so it could pass
certain amendments aimed at opening the country to foreign
capital.

This includes lifting a ban on foreign ownership of land and
on foreign control of certain enterprises such as infrastructure
and media companies.
