RP bishops endorse U.S. campaign

PHILIPPINES: Catholic bishops in the Philippines endorsed on
Saturday the global and local campaign against terrorism but
urged that innocent people must be spared.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP)
said, "the root causes ... of terrorist acts" must be identified
to find an "enduring solution" to the problem.

The CBCP said in a statement that while dialog was the better
way to solve problems, "terrorists have to be brought to justice
not because they belong to this or that religion but simply
because they are terrorists".

It endorsed Philippine President Gloria Arroyo's decision to
support the US-led antiterror campaign.
