JAKARTA - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries targets the completion of the integrated shrimp pond development in Waingapu, East Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, within two years. Some areas are targeted to start operating earlier. The Director General of Aquaculture at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Tb. Haeru Rahayu, stated that the acceleration is being carried out through coordination with the implementing consortium. “We hope to complete it within these two years, and Insha’Allah next year there will be some that we can operationalise,” Haeru said in Jakarta on Wednesday (1/4/2026). “We want to carry out accelerations. This is what we are consulting and discussing with our consortium partners who have been mandated to carry out this development,” he added. The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries is also preparing technical supervision measures. Coordination is being conducted to ensure that implementation in the field runs according to plan. “After this agenda, we will hold a meeting with the consortium team to ensure that the implementation process in the field, including design and other technical aspects, remains well controlled,” Haeru said. This area uses an environmentally friendly approach. The process includes water intake, processing in ponds, aquaculture activities, to wastewater treatment installation. The project is built on 2,150 hectares of land. The investment value reaches Rp 7.2 trillion. The budget covers construction management needs and main construction of around Rp 7.1 trillion.
