Rp 1b loss for Bogor's Telkom

BOGOR (JP): The Bogor office of state Telecommunication company PT Telkom suffered a Rp 1 billion loss in the past year due to widespread vandalization of property such as public phone booths, spokesman Harismaya said on Monday.

"If we also include the amount of looted rupiah coins, the loss would be much greater," Harismaya said.

There are 4,121 public phone booths located in Bogor, Cibinong and Depok, he said. "And about 10 percent of the total amount is reportedly damaged every month."

He said the company found it difficult to repair the damaged phone booths. "We fix one phone booth, but another is wrecked. It's like playing hide-and-seek with the looters."

Harismaya urged people to take care of the property and stop tampering with the public facilities.

"We hope to obtain a Rp 7 billion income target from the coin phones this year," he said. (24/edt)
