Rp 142m raised for poor schoolchildren

JAKARTA: Over 1,000 people who took part in a recent global charity event managed to raise Rp 142 million (US$15,106) to help poor schoolchildren in Indonesia, organizers announced on Wednesday.

The Walk the World event, which took place on July 18, was aimed at collecting public funds for a school feeding program in Indonesia.

The program is providing around 30,000 schoolchildren with snacks of fortified biscuits when they attend classes.

Sponsored by TNT Logistics and the World Food Program, the program was launched in 2002. By next year, it will expand to a planned 230,000 children in West Nusa Tenggara, East Java and Maluku. -- JP
