Rp 120 Billion Acquisition of Moro Purwokerto to be Transformed into New Plaza
The legendary shopping centre Moro Purwokerto in Banyumas Regency, Central Java, has officially changed hands to Rita Group in a deal valued at Rp 120 billion. The building, which has long been an icon of retail in Kota Satria, is planned to be transformed into a plaza with a new concept. The acquisition news was directly announced by Banyumas Regent Sadewo Tri Lastiono. “It has been bought by Rita for Rp 120 billion,” said Sadewo, quoted from Tribunbanyumas.com. He confirmed that the purchase process has been completed and the investor is currently preparing further development steps. In the meeting, Buntoro expressed his commitment to rebuilding the area. “Mr Buntoro has met with me, and he promised to renovate Moro. It will be made into something like a plaza but with a slightly different form,” Sadewo stated. This plan marks the transformation of Moro, previously known as a conventional shopping centre, into a commercial space with a more modern concept. Although it will still function as a plaza, its design and business approach are said to be adjusted to the evolving market needs. The transformation of Moro is seen as having the potential to drive growth in the retail sector while opening up new job opportunities. “I hope it can absorb a lot of workforce, prioritising the people of Banyumas,” said Sadewo. He also assessed that Purwokerto has great potential to develop as a retail city as well as an education city in Central Java. “Retail and education potential. I want to make Purwokerto the number two Education City in Central Java,” he said. The renovation process is expected to start soon. Several initial steps are already visible, one of which is the organisation of street vendors (PKL) who have been trading in the area in front of Moro. According to Sadewo, this organisation is being carried out at the request of the investor to accelerate the construction process.
