Bekasi, Kompas.com — Several residents and motorists are complaining about the damaged road conditions in front of the main gate of Dukuh Zamrud Housing, Cimuning Ward, Mustikajaya Subdistrict, Bekasi City.

The potholed road in the area is considered dangerous for motorists and prone to causing accidents, particularly at night or when it rains.

Kompas.com observations at the site showed the road surface with potholes at several points and peeling asphalt.

Due to these conditions, motorists often slow down their vehicles when passing through.

One Mustikajaya resident, Imam (28), described the situation as highly contrasting with the grandeur of the Dukuh Zamrud main gate, which previously went viral on social media for using nearly Rp 1 billion from the regional budget.

“This is a really unique phenomenon. The gate was built for almost Rp 1 billion, but the road in front is damaged,” said Imam when met by Kompas.com at the location on Friday (8/5/2026).

“The government should look at the reality on the ground. Don’t just build a beautiful gate for the eyes, but neglect safety functions,” he said.

In addition to endangering motorists, the potholed road is also said to frequently cause congestion because vehicles must slow down when passing.

“This is no longer just a nuisance, but dangerous. It sometimes causes traffic jams too,” he said.

Imam admitted to frequently passing through the area and noted that many other road sections around Dukuh Zamrud are also damaged.

Similar complaints were voiced by another resident, Hendi (34).

He said the road damage in front of the Dukuh Zamrud main gate has occurred for about the last two months.
