Royal ups loan provisions

LONDON (Reuters): Royal Bank of Scotland yesterday said it
raised its debt provisions by 53 million pounds against exposure
to Indonesia, South Korea and Thailand -- the three Asian
countries that are receiving support from the International
Monetary Fund.

The bank said in a statement that on March 31, 1998, its
exposure to these countries was 605 million pounds or 0.8 percent
of total group assets.
