Royal fiesta made interesting

SURAKARTA, Central Java: The cultural and art shows at the
next Royal Court Festival in Surakarta (Solo) should be more
varied and interesting this year, an official of the Director
General of Tourism said.

"The national court festival being held on July 1-7 in Solo
should be better than previous ones," Ris Hartadi was quoted by
Antara as saying after setting up the festival committee in Solo
on Tuesday.

The festival is attended by 35 royal courts and sultanates.

Seven royal and cultural activities will be held: a large
procession of royal soldiers, art shows, a traditional fashion
show, exhibitions of court artifacts, traditional ritual
performances, folk art shows and art and cultural competitions.

The festival will cost Rp 400 million, of which Rp 300 million
will be covered by the Central Java and Surakarta
administrations. The rest will be provided by the central
government, Hartadi said.

Hartadi said that the festival will continue to be held the
first week of July in the future. (kod)
