Roy triumphs in Sentul

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian driver Roy Haryanto defied the odds on Sunday and swept the seventh and eighth legs of the Formula Asia championship at Sentul, West Java, for his first victories of the year.

Roy of the Marlboro Castrol team clocked the fastest time of 23 minutes and 30.826 seconds in Sunday's first race and set a better time of 23:23.929 to maintain his winning streak in the second.

The 20-year-old driver climbed to third spot in the drivers' championship standings on 87 points, 17 points behind Briton Piers Hunniset. Narain Karthikeyan remained on top of the standings with 123 points, despite an unimpressive performance on Sunday.

Sentul will host the next two legs in mid September, before the series moves to China and Thailand. (amd)
