Roy third in Formula Asia

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia's leading driver Roy Haryanto rode his luck to finish third and fifth in the Formula Asia races in the Shah Alam circuit in Malaysia on Sunday.

Roy, 19, battled neck-to-neck against Formula Asia championship leader Niclas Jonsson of Sweden in the final lap of the morning race. However, engine trouble condemned the Indonesian to third place by only a two second margin.

Roy struggled to control his troubled car in the afternoon race, but still managed to finish among the top five.

Driving before his home crowd, host racer Alexander Yoong clocked the fastest time in the two races on Sunday. The Formula Asia championship series will resume at the same venue on Aug. 20. (amd)
