Roy Suryo's Third Pre-Trial Verdict Scheduled for Thursday 6 August

The pre-trial hearing filed by Roy Suryo, a suspect in the case of the alleged fake diploma of Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo, has entered its final stage at the South Jakarta District Court. Sole Judge I Ketut Darpawan scheduled the reading of the verdict for Thursday, 6 August. Today’s session focused on the submission of conclusions from both parties. Both Roy Suryo as the petitioner and the Polda Metro Jaya as the respondent submitted their conclusion documents directly to the judge without reading them out in the courtroom. The hearing, which began at 14:10 WIB, was brief. After receiving the documents from both sides, the judge immediately closed the session and set the verdict schedule. ‘We will commence the verdict on Thursday,’ stated Sole Judge I Ketut Darpawan in the courtroom. This pre-trial motion is the third filed by Roy Suryo. However, a crucial point distinguishes this lawsuit from the two previous ones, namely the demand for material compensation. In his lawsuit, Roy Suryo is demanding compensation of Rp210 million. This demand was filed over alleged coercive efforts and arbitrariness by Polda Metro Jaya investigators in carrying out what he deems an unlawful detention. The petitioner based this demand on the first pre-trial ruling, which has permanent legal force, regarding his detention process. Through this motion, Roy is asking the court to examine the investigators’ compliance with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). The verdict hearing on Thursday will determine whether the court accepts or rejects the compensation claim and the objection to the detention procedure filed by Roy Suryo.
