Roy Suryo's Legal Team Invites Activists to Police HQ to Provide Guarantee for Detention Suspension
The legal team for Roy Suryo has invited prominent figures and activists to come to Polda Metro Jaya on Friday (19/6) afternoon to request a suspension of detention for their client. Previously, Roy Suryo’s lawyers stated that their client and Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as dr Tifa, had been arrested by Polda Metro Jaya investigators on Friday morning. Both are suspects in a defamation case concerning the academic credentials of Indonesia’s seventh president, Joko Widodo.
This was conveyed by Roy Suryo’s lawyer, Ahmad Khozinudin. He then shared a press statement from Roy Suryo’s legal counsel regarding the arrest. “To prominent figures and activists who have the time, we kindly request your presence at Polda Metro Jaya today, Friday, 19 June 2026, at 11.00 WIB, to provide a letter of guarantee for the suspension of detention as preparation for legal efforts to request a suspension of detention, should it be needed,” the statement read.
In the press statement, Khozinudin and his team said Roy was arrested around 7.00 a.m. on Friday morning, as was dr Tifa. “Today, Friday, 19 June 2026, at approximately 7.00 a.m., our client Roy Suryo Notodiprojo was reported by his wife to have been arrested by Polda Metro Jaya investigators,” he said. “At the same time, we also received information that Tifauzia Tyassuma was also arrested,” Khozinudin and his team added in the statement.
A member of dr Tifa’s legal team, Aziz Yanuar, also confirmed the arrest. “Yes, that’s correct,” he said when contacted. Through a press statement, dr Tifa’s defence team stated that their client was arrested by police at her apartment on Friday morning at around 6.47 a.m. WIB. Her lawyer explained that dr Tifa was supposed to sit a doctoral examination at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia (UI). However, due to the arrest, the dissertation examination had to be conducted online from a room within Polda Metro Jaya.
“This information was conveyed directly by dr Tifa. After being taken to Polda, dr Tifa showed evidence that she was in the Polda Metro Jaya environment,” the statement read. “Dr Tifa appeared to be in front of a laptop and stated that she was taking her S3 examination at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia (FKUI) from a room at Polda Metro Jaya,” it continued.
Polda Metro Jaya had previously stated that the case files for Roy Suryo and dr Tifa, concerning the allegations of a fake diploma belonging to President Joko Widodo, had been declared complete, or P21, by the DKI Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office. “Alhamdulillah, the prosecutor has stated that the case file we sent to the DKI Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office no longer requires the fulfilment of any deficiencies that we previously addressed,” said Polda Metro Jaya’s Director of General Criminal Investigation, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, on Tuesday (2/6). At that time, Iman said his party would soon carry out the phase II transfer, handing over evidence and suspects to the prosecution to be brought to court. However, he could not confirm exactly when the phase II transfer would take place. After the phase II transfer, the prosecutor will then prepare the indictment, followed by the trial process.
