Roy Suryo's Legal Representative Considers Filing Intervention Lawsuit in Jokowi's Diploma Trial

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Roy Suryo, through his legal representative, plans to join as an intervention plaintiff in the civil lawsuit concerning Joko Widodo’s diploma at the Solo District Court.

“We are considering becoming an interested party to support the plaintiff,” said Roy’s lawyer, Ahmad Khozinudin, at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters on Thursday (7/5/2026).

According to him, their involvement in this case aims to enable direct access to the documents, rather than merely viewing them in a special case exhibition.

“The purpose is so that we can access the diploma directly, not just have it shown in a special case exhibition,” he said.

“So what is shown may not necessarily be authentic, and even if it is shown, it at least proves that Mr Joko Widodo has a statesmanlike and gentlemanly attitude,” he added.

Previously, Jokowi was sued civilly by alumnus of the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University, Sigit Pratama, at the Solo District Court.

Sigit’s lawyer, Dekka Ajeng, stated that the lawsuit was prompted by Jokowi’s absence in several previous hearings related to the diploma, from the case filed by Bambang Tri Mulyono in 2022 to the citizen lawsuit in 2025.

“He (Jokowi) has not shown the diploma either in court or publicly. In principle, we are filing this lawsuit to the District Court because we want to contribute to allowing Mr Jokowi to more freely show his diploma to the public,” Ajeng explained at the Solo District Court on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

Ajeng added that her client acknowledges Jokowi’s diploma as normatively authentic. However, they doubt the authenticity of the document currently in police possession.

“Normatively, Mr Jokowi’s diploma is indeed authentic. The current problem is the diploma held by Mr Jokowi and then seized by Metro Jaya Police, which we do not yet understand if it is genuine or not,” she clarified.
