Roy Suryo Vows to Donate Rp206 Million Compensation to Orphanages if Pre-trial Motion Succeeds

Suspect Roy Suryo has confirmed he will not use the compensation money he is demanding from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police should his pre-trial motion succeed. The former Minister of Youth and Sports stated that all proceeds from the third pre-trial lawsuit would be donated to those in need, such as orphanages and people seeking justice. “Whatever the amount, it doesn’t matter to me. It will then be given to those who are more deserving,” Suryo said on Tuesday. He urged the public not to focus solely on the Rp206 million figure, emphasising that the source and purpose of the funds were more important than the nominal sum. Suryo also took a swipe at the alleged misuse of illegally obtained money, contrasting it with his own pledge. “As long as the money is used clearly and for good, and we will channel it to those who deserve it, that’s what matters,” he added. He expressed hope that the judge’s ruling would ultimately benefit people in need of both economic assistance and justice. The South Jakarta District Court, led by a single judge, is scheduled to deliver its verdict on the compensation claim on Thursday, 6 August 2026. In this third pre-trial motion, Suryo is suing the Jakarta Metropolitan Police for Rp206 million, comprising Rp106 million in material losses and Rp100 million in immaterial losses, following a previous ruling that declared his arrest and detention unlawful.
