Roy Suryo Secures Partial Victory in Pretrial Hearing: 'This Is Not My Victory, But Everyone's'

Jakarta – A partial victory in a pretrial hearing has not led Roy Suryo to end his legal fight. The former Minister of Youth and Sports confirmed that his struggle will continue through several other legal avenues. Roy described the ruling by the South Jakarta District Court as a significant moment for law enforcement in Indonesia. According to him, the judge’s decision was not merely a personal victory but carries a broader meaning for the public. ‘This law is not for me, not for Roy Suryo and the legal team, but it is for all of us,’ Roy told reporters on Wednesday. Roy also expressed his appreciation to the sole judge, I Ketut Darpawan, who presided over the pretrial. He assessed that the judge’s legal considerations were in line with the facts revealed during the trial. ‘We would like to thank the sole judge for his extraordinary considerations. They truly matched the facts of the trial,’ he said. Despite winning part of his petition, Roy confirmed that the case he is facing is not over. He revealed that he still has other legal agendas to attend to, including the main case at the East Jakarta District Court and a subsequent pretrial hearing. ‘Don’t forget, there is a second pretrial on Friday. Today we completed the pretrial in South Jakarta, and we will also attend the main case in East Jakarta,’ Roy stated. Furthermore, Roy disclosed that his side has filed a lawsuit for unlawful acts at the North Jakarta District Court against an individual named Lecumana. He said the lawsuit has been officially registered. ‘Yesterday we filed an unlawful acts lawsuit in North Jakarta against someone named Lecumana. The lawsuit has been registered because we believe there has been a smuggling of articles,’ Roy said. On the occasion, Roy also touched on the judge’s considerations, which he claimed used provisions from both the old and new Criminal Code simultaneously. In a joking tone, he referred to this condition as a ‘blend’ while showing off a t-shirt he was wearing bearing that word.
