Roy Suryo showed his original diplomas to journalists after attending a pre-trial hearing featuring evidence presented by Polda Metro Jaya, in connection with a defamation case arising from allegations that the 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo or Jokowi, held a fake diploma. The hearing was held at the South Jakarta District Court on Wednesday (15/7).

On that occasion, Roy Suryo, who is a suspect in the case over the alleged fake diploma claims against Jokowi, displayed a number of his academic documents, ranging from his bachelor’s (S1) and master’s (S2) diplomas to his doctoral (S3) diploma from the State University of Jakarta (UNJ).

“All this time I have always shown that this S1 diploma from UGM is genuine. This is a copy and it has been legally certified. Then there is the S2 diploma, M.Kes, from UGM (Universitas Gadjah Mada), which is also original,” Roy told journalists.

Roy Suryo then showed his doctoral diploma, which he said he had only recently collected, having previously shown only a letter of graduation.

“And this time I will show you — this is the original diploma I obtained from the State University of Jakarta, valid. Here it has the emboss, and there is also the watermark,” he said.

Roy Suryo displayed the original diploma in connection with the controversy that has emerged in recent weeks regarding the authenticity of his academic credentials. Previously, Roy had reported seven people to Polda Metro Jaya for alleged defamation related to claims that his S1, S2 and S3 diplomas were fake.

At a press conference after the hearing, Roy Suryo said allegations regarding his doctoral diploma had spread widely on social media and become a matter of public consumption. He therefore showed his original diploma directly to journalists so that the public could see the physical form of the document.

Roy Suryo also claimed he had received an explanation from the State University of Jakarta regarding his academic status. According to him, the university stated that his doctoral diploma was valid and issued in accordance with the applicable academic procedures.

“What is most important today is that officials from the State University of Jakarta have declared my doctoral diploma to be valid,” said Roy Suryo.
