Roy Suryo Insists He Will Not Seek RJ in Jokowi's Diploma Case

Roy Suryo has affirmed that he will not submit an application for restorative justice (RJ) in the case accusing Indonesia’s seventh president, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), of possessing a fake diploma.

It is known that out of the total eight suspects in the case, three have applied for RJ, which has been granted. Those three are Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar, Eggi Sudjana, and Damai Hari Lubis.

“From the beginning, there was no RJ; in my local dialect, it’s ‘sak kuku ireng’—not even a tiny black speck; we absolutely did not request RJ,” Roy told reporters on Tuesday (21/4).

Roy also stated that resolving the case through RJ is not a victory but rather a form of defeat.

“RJ is not winning; RJ is losing, RJ is surrendering, losing. So, our friends who opted for RJ, that’s up to them, but they didn’t win—they lost completely, the most humiliating loss possible. So, we will not go for RJ,” he said.

Roy claims that he and his team still have various ways to win the case without going through the RJ process. Therefore, he asks all parties not to pressure him into applying for RJ.

“Once again, I answer that for RJ, in the young people’s lingo, ‘sorry mek’—we will not do RJ. No need to haggle over RJ, no need to pressure us, no need to offer Umrah, no need to push us even to the loo about whether we’ll do RJ or not, like that, or no need to offer all sorts of things—there’s none of that,” he stated.

Previously, Polda Metro Jaya confirmed that the case alleging Jokowi’s fake diploma will continue for the five remaining suspects. Those five suspects are Roy Suryo, Kurnia Tri Rohyani, Rustam Effendi, Muhammad Rizal Fadillah, and Tifauziah Tyassuma alias dr Tifa.

“The investigation process against the other suspects will continue until the trial stage in court,” said Director of General Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Iman Imanuddin, during a press conference on Friday (17/4).

Iman said that for the other three suspects—Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar, Eggi Sudjana, and Damai Hari Lubis—a letter of discontinuation of investigation (SP3) has been issued.

The case files for the five suspects have also been sent to the High Prosecutor’s Office for examination by investigating prosecutors, he added.

“The case files have been sent to the Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office for further processing,” he said.
