Roy Suryo files pretrial motion over arrest in alleged defamation case

Roy Suryo, a suspect in an alleged defamation case concerning the authenticity of President Joko Widodo’s diploma, has filed a pretrial motion at the South Jakarta District Court. The motion challenges the legality of his arrest and the search of his residence conducted by investigators from Polda Metro Jaya. ‘The pretrial hearing for Roy Suryo is indeed registered,’ said South Jakarta District Court spokesperson Halida Rahardhini on Wednesday. The hearing is scheduled for Monday, 29 June, at 9:00 AM local time. Roy Suryo’s legal counsel, Ahmad Khozinudin, confirmed the filing, stating that the pretrial motion specifically addresses the validity of the arrest and search procedures. The motion was filed alongside a similar challenge by Tifauzia Tyassuma, who was also arrested in connection with the same case. According to reports, Roy Suryo was arrested at his home on Friday, 19 June, while Tifauzia Tyassuma was taken into custody at her apartment the same morning.
