Roy Suryo Challenges Jokowi to Attend Doctor Tifa Trial in Person
Defendant in the alleged fake diploma case against Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo, Roy Suryo, has requested that Jokowi attend the trial in person alongside himself and Doctor Tifa. He stated he does not want Jokowi to attend the court session online via a teleconference connection such as the Zoom Meeting application. “Jokowi, don’t use Zoom, you must come in person,” Roy said on the Head to Head CNN Indonesia programme on Wednesday evening (1/7). Roy noted it was entirely possible for Jokowi to attend both his trial and Doctor Tifa’s trial because they are being held at different times. “And you can’t not come twice,” he added. Roy also claimed to have seen a number of pieces of evidence prepared for the court. He mentioned one piece of evidence was a typewriter, and he suspected Jokowi would claim it was the machine he used to write his thesis. “Prove it, demonstrate it, we will see Jokowi typing with that typewriter,” he said. Meanwhile, Jokowi’s legal counsel, Firman Pangaribuan, who was also present at the event, stated that Jokowi would attend the trial. However, he could not confirm whether Jokowi would attend both sessions or just one. “What is certain is that he will attend,” he said. The alleged defamation and slander case regarding the authenticity of Jokowi’s diploma has now gone to trial. Doctor Tifa’s first hearing was held today, Thursday (2/7), at the East Jakarta District Court. The panel of judges presiding over the trial is led by Chief Judge Christina Endarwati. Meanwhile, the case involving Roy Suryo cannot yet be tried as it is still awaiting a pre-trial process at the South Jakarta District Court.
