Roy Suryo Arrested, Jokowi to Present Original Diploma in Court

Seventh President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has confirmed he will present his original diploma in court during the case involving allegations of a fake diploma, which has implicated Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as Dokter Tifa.

This was conveyed by Jokowi in response to the arrest of Roy and Tifa by investigators from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police on Friday (19/6) morning.

Jokowi stressed that he respects the legal process until the case proceeds to trial for verification. “Yes, I will attend (the trial). Yes, as I have previously stated,” Jokowi said at his residence when asked by journalists about the certainty of bringing the original diploma as evidence in court.

Jokowi noted that his original diploma remains in police custody as evidence in the case. The father of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming also emphasised that he will follow the ongoing legal process.

“We will follow the existing legal process until the court proceedings, because it is the court that will ultimately decide. We will follow it, we will follow it,” Jokowi stated.

Roy Suryo was arrested by police after performing the dawn prayer this morning, while Dokter Tifa was arrested whilst taking an online doctoral examination.

Legal counsel Refly Harun stated that Roy Suryo did not sign the arrest warrant. Refly protested the arrest. “We protest strongly, we protest strongly. And once again, if this were related to, say, a murder case, a corruption case, and so forth, it would make sense to be arrested and detained,” he said.
