Roy Suryo Arrested by Police in Jokowi Fake Diploma Case

Polda Metro Jaya has arrested former Youth and Sports Minister (Menpora) Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as Dr Tifa, in connection with an alleged defamation case involving the fake diploma of Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa, who were initially held at the Directorate of Detainee and Evidence Care (Tahti), were subsequently brought out and transported by car. Roy Suryo emerged wearing a blue shirt and a mask, carrying an orange detainee vest in his hands. Meanwhile, Dr Tifa came out already wearing an orange detainee vest. Both were taken to undergo medical examinations at the Police Hospital (RS Polri) in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta. Police provided a tight escort as supporters also gathered to witness the moment of Roy Suryo’s examination at the hospital. It was previously reported that the former Youth and Sports Minister Roy Suryo Notodiprojo was arrested by Polda Metro Jaya investigators on Friday morning, 19 June 2026. This information was conveyed by the Advocacy Team Against the Criminalisation of Academics and Activists (TA-AKAA), which has been assisting Roy Suryo throughout the ongoing legal process. According to the legal team, news of the arrest was received from Roy Suryo’s wife at around 07.00 WIB. At nearly the same time, they also received word that Tifauzia Tyassuma had been detained by police. The arrest was met with a strong response from Roy Suryo’s legal support team. They consider the investigators’ action to be inconsistent with the principles of law enforcement that uphold procedures and citizens’ rights. TA-AKAA Litigation Coordinator Petrus Selestinus expressed regret over the arrest of Roy Suryo. He stated that during the investigation, Roy Suryo had been cooperative by complying with summonses issued by investigators. Furthermore, Roy Suryo is said to have routinely fulfilled his mandatory reporting obligations as stipulated in the ongoing legal process. ‘We regret the actions of Polda Metro Jaya investigators who carried out forced measures through the arrest of our client, even though our client has been cooperative in fulfilling investigators’ summonses and has always carried out mandatory reporting,’ the advocacy team stated in a written statement received on Friday.
