Roy Suryo Arrested by Polda Metro Jaya, Wife Angered as Investigators Enter Bedroom Citing Flight Risk

Jakarta – Polda Metro Jaya detained Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as Dr Tifa, in the early hours of Friday, 19 June 2026. Both were taken to Polda Metro Jaya headquarters for questioning in a case of alleged defamation related to the issue of a fake diploma for the seventh President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

Their legal counsel, Refly Harun, objected to the manner in which his clients were taken in. He stated that Roy Suryo had no time to prepare, having only managed to perform the dawn prayer before being forced to go to Polda Metro Jaya without having bathed or dressed properly. Meanwhile, Dr Tifa was reportedly preparing to sit a doctoral examination when officers arrived.

Despite the circumstances, Refly Harun said both clients complied with all procedures carried out by the investigators and offered no resistance. After being secured, Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa were taken to the Sub-Directorate for State Security (Kamneg) at Polda Metro Jaya for further examination.

Refly also questioned the timing of the arrest, which occurred just as the case was about to be handed over to the prosecution. He noted that both Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa had consistently answered investigators’ summons and regularly fulfilled their mandatory reporting obligations. He suggested the arrest appeared to be a ‘special order’ and argued it did not reflect proper law enforcement. While not blaming the investigators for following orders, he demanded to know who gave the instruction and who had an interest in the matter.

Another lawyer for Roy Suryo, Ahmad Khozinudin, revealed that investigators attempted to enter the bedroom to search for his client. He said the investigators feared Roy Suryo might flee, prompting them to search around the house. Roy Suryo’s wife became angry, protesting that her private space was being violated.
