The South Jakarta District Attorney’s Office (Kejari Jaksel) has decided not to detain Roy Suryo and Tifauziah Tyussuma, also known as Dr Tifa, in the case concerning allegations of a fake diploma belonging to Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Both individuals are only required to report once a week.

‘Henceforth, the suspects are subject to a mandatory weekly reporting obligation,’ said Head of Kejari Jaksel Marcelo Bellah in South Jakarta on Monday (22/6).

Prosecutors decided against detention based on a suspension request submitted by the legal representatives and families of Roy and Tifa. Marcelo stated that in the request, the family members acting as guarantors are prepared to accept the risk should Roy and Tifa fail to appear in court.

‘As well as a statement from the suspects that they will always be cooperative, fulfil all applicable obligations and rules, and will not repeat the actions in question, maintaining a conducive situation. Therefore, in accordance with the mechanism and prevailing regulations, the suspects are not detained,’ he said.

Previously, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police had transferred Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa to the South Jakarta District Attorney’s Office on Monday. This transfer followed their arrest on Friday (19/6) the previous week.

The Director of General Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, explained that the arrest of Roy and Tifa was part of the process of handing over the suspects and evidence from investigators to the DKI High Prosecutor’s Office. This step was taken after the case file had been declared complete, or P-21, by the prosecution.

Following their arrest, Roy and Tifa were taken to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital for a medical examination. The results led doctors to recommend that both undergo inpatient care to ensure their health remained stable.
