Roy Suryo and Tifa Not Detained After Transfer to South Jakarta Prosecutor's Office

The South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari Jaksel) has decided not to detain Roy Suryo and Tifauziah Tyassuma, also known as Dr Tifa, in a case related to allegations of a fake diploma belonging to the 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi). The decision was made after the prosecutor’s office received the phase two handover of evidence and suspects from the Metro Jaya Police investigators. “In accordance with the mechanism and applicable regulations, the suspects are not detained,” said Head of Kejari Jaksel Marcelo Bellah at the Kejari Jaksel building in South Jakarta on Monday (22/6). Marcelo explained that the decision was based on a request for suspension of detention received by the public prosecutor from the suspects’ legal counsel and family. “Based on the opinion of the public prosecutor team regarding the request from the legal counsel and family of the suspects not to be detained,” he said. “Considering the family as guarantors who are willing to accept the risk if the suspects fail to appear in court, as well as a statement letter from the suspects that they will always be cooperative in fulfilling all obligations,” Marcelo continued. Previously, the Metro Jaya Police had transferred Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa to the South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office on Monday. This transfer was preceded by the arrest of both individuals on Friday (19/6) morning the week before. At that time, the Director of General Criminal Investigation of Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, explained that the arrest of Roy and Tifa was part of the process of handing over the suspects and evidence from investigators to the DKI High Prosecutor’s Office. The step was taken after the case file had been declared complete, or P-21, by the prosecutor’s office. “Furthermore, to ensure the presence and whereabouts of the suspects so that this handover process runs smoothly, investigators must confirm the presence and attendance of the suspects,” Iman said on Friday afternoon. Following their arrest, Roy and Tifa were taken to the Police Hospital at Kramat Jati for a health examination. The results led doctors to recommend that both receive inpatient care to ensure their health conditions remained stable.
