Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa to Stand Trial at East Jakarta District Court Over Jokowi Diploma Case

Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa will soon stand trial over allegations that the 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), possessed a fake diploma. They will be tried at the East Jakarta District Court.

“Based on the decision of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia, the East Jakarta Court has been appointed to examine and decide this case,” said South Jakarta Chief Prosecutor Marcelo Bellah after the suspect transfer at the South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office on Monday (22/6/2026).

Marcelo did not explain in detail why the trial is being held there. For the time being, both suspects, Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa, are subject to mandatory weekly reporting. “Furthermore, the suspects are required to report once a week,” he stated.

Following the transfer, Marcelo outlined several articles under which Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa are charged, including those related to attacking the honour or reputation of a person in public. “The case involves the alleged criminal act of attacking the honour or reputation of a person directed at the public, carried out either through electronic media or directly, as regulated and punishable under Articles 434, 433, 441 of the Criminal Code as well as Article 35 and Article 32 of the ITE Law and so forth, as charged against the suspects as stated in the case file,” he disclosed.

Marcelo further stated that prosecutors received hundreds of items of evidence from the police, most of which are documents. “The evidence handed over today totals 714 items, consisting of several types, predominantly documents, books, mobile phones, and flash drives containing links and videos related to this case,” he said.
