Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa Not Detained in Jokowi Diploma Case, Pledge Not to Flee

The Prosecutor’s Office has not detained suspects Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa in the case concerning allegations of a fake diploma belonging to 7th President Joko Widodo. Roy Suryo’s side has pledged to maintain a conducive atmosphere and not repeat the actions.

“Of course, this non-detention demands responsibility from us and both of them. So the responsibility is to keep the climate conducive and we will later think about how to face the possibility of a trial professionally,” said Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa’s lawyer, Refly Harun, after the handover at the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office, Monday (22/6/2026).

Refly guaranteed his clients are ready and able to attend the trial at any time should it be held. He also guaranteed that Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa would not flee. “Our clients will not complicate the trial if it is held, our clients will not run away, our clients will not destroy or eliminate evidence, our clients will not repeat the act, but with the caveat of whether this is a criminal act or not,” he explained.

Furthermore, Refly stated his clients would not complicate the examination process at the District Court, appeal, and cassation levels. He emphasised his clients are ready to be cooperative and follow the trial series. “Our clients have a good reputation and belong to families whose whereabouts are clear and are well known in their neighbourhoods, and most of the community around their residences know that our clients are good people. That was conveyed in writing this morning,” he revealed.

Meanwhile, Roy Suryo expressed gratitude for not being detained. “Alhamdulillah, I personally, Roy Suryo Notodiprojo, express many thanks, most clearly to my loyal friend, Dr Tifauzia Tyasuma, with whom we continue to struggle,” said Roy.

Dr Tifa also expressed the same sentiment. She thanked President Prabowo Subianto, who she believed played a role in this matter. “There is one very important thing. I was so moved earlier that I forgot. First of all, I would like to thank the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr Prabowo Subianto, because he was very instrumental, I am sure he played a role in how we struggle,” she explained.

Reason for Non-Detention

Head of the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office, Marcelo Bellah, revealed the reason prosecutors did not detain suspects Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa after the handover of the case regarding the alleged false diploma of 7th President Joko Widodo. The suspects’ families acted as guarantors to prevent detention.

“So, in accordance with the applicable mechanisms and provisions, the suspects were not detained,” said Marcelo after the handover at the South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office, Monday (22/6).

Marcelo explained this decision was made based on the opinion of the public prosecutor team. They received a request from the legal counsel and families of the suspects not to be detained. “Considering the family as guarantors who are willing to accept the risk if the suspects do not appear in court,” he clarified.
