Roy Suryo and Associates Deem Jokowi's Claim to Present Original Diploma in Court as Mere Bluff
The lawyer for the six defendants in the case of accusations of a fake diploma, Ahmad Khozinudin, has responded to Jokowi’s lawyer, Yakup Hasibuan, who stated that Jokowi will attend the trial and show his original diploma. Ahmad Khozinudin is not convinced that Jokowi will do so.
He initially described Yakup Hasibuan’s statement as merely a repeated promise. However, he said that Jokowi has never fulfilled such promises.
“Yes, what was conveyed by Joko Widodo’s lawyer, Yaqut Hasibuan, is actually repeating what Joko Widodo has repeatedly stated before, that he will show his SD, SMP, SMA, up to S1 UGM diplomas in court, but what we take as a reference is what is done, not what he says,” Ahmad said when contacted on Saturday (25/4/2026).
“In fact, there have been at least four civil court trials related to Joko Widodo’s diploma and one criminal court trial related to Joko Widodo’s diploma. None of them presented any of Jokowi’s diplomas,” he continued.
Ahmad described Yakup Hasibuan’s statement as misleading public opinion. Additionally, he said Jokowi also does not respect the proceedings.
“So I think the first thing I mentioned is just misleading opinion because there is no fact to it and it has been proven in various Jokowi trials that he still could not present his diploma. He also does not respect the proceedings by not attending, whereas in the mediation agenda, the principal defendant is required to attend,” he said.
Furthermore, Ahmad stated that presenting the original diploma is no longer Jokowi’s burden of proof. According to him, it is the prosecutor who should present Jokowi’s original diploma.
“Today, that evidence is no longer under Joko Widodo’s authority but has become the investigator’s authority because it was seized by the Metro Jaya Police investigators and in court it will become material for the prosecutor to prove his charges. So it is also misleading opinion if later it is said that Jokowi will show it because the burden of proof in the fake diploma case of Joko Widodo with the modus operandi of defamation reporting and defamation against our client Roy Suryo and associates lies with the prosecutor,” he explained.
Additionally, Ahmad questioned the case reported by Jokowi since 30 April 2025, which to this day has not progressed. According to him, it is reasonable, as this case is not being handled in accordance with the applicable Criminal Code or Criminal Procedure Code. Therefore, he considers Jokowi’s claim to show the original diploma as mere bluff.
“The claim to show the diploma in the trial is also a mere bluff claim because to this day the public is also not convinced whether there will really be a diploma proof trial,” he said.
Previously, the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), met with his legal team at Jokowi’s residence in Sumber Ward, Banjarsari Subdistrict, Solo City. They discussed the case of alleged defamation stemming from the fake diploma polemic reported by Jokowi to the Metro Jaya Police.
Jokowi’s lawyer, Yakup Hasibuan, said that in that meeting, they also provided the latest developments in the case.
“This morning we paid a visit to Pak Jokowi, while also giving a little update on the developments of the case at the Metro Jaya Police. Because we are confident that this matter will soon be tried as well, so we discussed quite a bit about the follow-up, how long the process will take, and so on,” Yakup said to the media on Saturday (25/4).
His side does not yet know when the trial will be held. His side leaves it to the Prosecutor’s Office and the Court regarding the trial schedule. However, he is confident that the trial will not be long, as the case file is already complete.
“We are still waiting for the schedule, of course that is the authority of the Prosecutor’s Office. If it has entered the Court, there will be technical determination of the trial schedule and so on. Our belief is that since the file is complete, it should not be long, hopefully within 1-2 months,” he explained.
Yakup assured that Jokowi will attend that trial. He has confirmed this directly with Jokowi. In fact, Jokowi will show his original diploma in that trial.
“We still confirmed again with Pak Jokowi, ‘Pak, later your attendance at the trial will be like what.’ He emphasised that he will attend the trial and show his diploma,” he said.
