Roy Suryo Alleges Privacy Violations During Police Arrest
Jakarta, VIVA – Roy Suryo, a suspect in an alleged defamation and libel case concerning the authenticity of the diploma of Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo, has claimed that privacy violations occurred during a search and arrest by investigators from the Jakarta Metro Jaya Police on Friday, 19 June 2026.
“Therefore, what we are challenging in this pretrial motion are matters that are improper, inappropriate, and violate human rights, as well as the law,” Roy Suryo stated at the South Jakarta District Court on Monday.
He claimed he would reveal several violations regarding the summons and even the forced arrest, which he argues should have followed established rules and procedures. Furthermore, he stated that the arrest was conducted without seeking permission from the local neighbourhood heads (RT and RW).
“I have confirmed that the local RT and RW were unaware of the incident. I had even anticipated that there might be sudden attempts to backdate [documents],” he said.
He further alleged that investigators entered his home without permission, including entering his bedroom, which caused his wife to scream in shock. “But suddenly, the investigators entered, went upstairs, and even entered the bedroom directly. This was truly improper and disrespectful,” said Roy Suryo.
He identified several masked investigators, including an officer with the rank of Inspector (Iptu) with the initial R, and another investigator with the initial A.
“I was not allowed to change my clothes, was not allowed to eat, and was not allowed to drink. I was even barely allowed to bathe; I could hardly even wash my head or face. Fortunately, there was a kitchen downstairs, so I managed to wash my face,” he added.
Roy Suryo’s pretrial hearing is scheduled for Monday, 29 June 2026, at 09:00 WIB, presided over by Single Judge I Ketut Darpawan.
According to the Case Tracking Information System (SIPP) of the South Jakarta District Court, Roy Suryo’s pretrial motion was registered under number 99/Pid.Pra/2026/ON.JKT.SEL, dated 22 June 2026. The defendants in this case include the Government of Indonesia, represented by the Head of the Jakarta Metro Jaya Police, the Director of Criminal Investigation, the Sub-Directorate of National Security, the Investigating Team, the Attorney General, the Deputy Attorney General at the Attorney General’s Office, and the Jakarta Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
