Row over QRIS Admin Fee Leads to 10 TNI Members Allegedly Damaging Shop in Central Jakarta

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - More than 10 Indonesian Army (TNI AD) personnel are said to have ransacked the ‘Adi Jaya’ grocery store in Sumur Batu, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (3/5/2026).

Based on statements from a local witness, Maya (40), the TNI members became involved after one of their colleagues returned from the store to their nearby headquarters.

Previously, a TNI member had argued with two shopkeepers at Adi Jaya over the QRIS admin fee.

Shortly afterwards, more than 10 soldiers returned to the Adi Jaya store.

They are then said to have ganged up on the male shopkeeper.

“The shopkeeper was told to come out and was beaten. He had injuries on his face, legs, and body that I saw,” said Maya when met by Kompas.com at her home on Tuesday afternoon (5/5/2026).

Maya also saw a TNI member lift his shirt to show a wound on his stomach.

“Then his friends got angry and destroyed the shop again. Apparently, there was talk of a stabbing,” said Maya.

“But it turns out I heard from insiders (from the shop side) that there wasn’t. He was injured by something he was holding himself, scissors or something like that,” she added.

The Head of the Army Information Service (Kadispenad), Colonel Inf Donny Pramono, stated that the involved soldier had the initials Sertu AW.

“We can confirm that an incident of brawl did occur between a TNI AD soldier and a civilian at that location,” Donny said when confirmed by Kompas.com via text message on Tuesday.
