Roti Romi Menteng criticised over plating and flies in drinks as owner speaks out

Jakarta — The Menteng branch of Roti Romi in Central Jakarta recently went viral after attracting a flood of customer complaints. The complaints were summarised by the Instagram account @infoboga.id and drew thousands of responses from netizens. In a post circulated on Thursday (5 March 2026), the note read: ‘Roti Romi Disappoints Customers: From Flies in Drinks to Shabby Plating.’ One complaint said, ‘As soon as we were seated, the meals did not arrive.’ There were also complaints about iced tea containing a green fly, with a photo of the drink attached. There were complaints about the presentation of dishes: nasi katsu and nasi sei sapi were said to be far from customers’ expectations, as they were served only in chunks of katsu meat and beef rather than the usual portions. Finally, customers complained about the plating process being unhygienic, with food placed on the floor during plating in a room. According to Lily, the Roti Romi restaurant in Menteng is the latest branch of a culinary business widely known for its classic bread products. ‘First, we would like to extend our sincerest apologies for what happened yesterday at our newest outlet, Roti Romi Menteng,’ Lily told Kompas.com when contacted on Thursday. There was an overbooking situation as the number of chats received far exceeded the restaurant’s capacity to respond. ‘At first we expected hundreds of chats, but thousands arrived in a very short time,’ Lily said.
