Rosatom Ready to Face Possible EU Sanctions
Moscow (ANTARA) - Russia’s state corporation Rosatom is preparing to face possible European Union sanctions against the nuclear sector, warning that such measures could backfire, a company official said on Monday (23/2).
Discussions regarding sanctions targeting Russian nuclear energy are nothing new, said Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev. However, European countries have not yet fully overcome the consequences of previous energy restrictions, with their economies still reeling from sanctions on the oil and gas sector, he added.
He said the company has a strong order portfolio both domestically and internationally. “We are highly competent in the nuclear sector and will not be short of work, as there is already a queue of international partners for our projects,” he said.
Refusing to cooperate could pose technological and economic risks for Europe, Likhachev said, noting that replacing existing nuclear components even in the medium term would lead to serious negative consequences.
