Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani is encouraging universities to implement their research results into the investment and downstreaming industry. He made the statement after the National Dialogue on the Indonesian Science, Technology, and Industry Convention (KSTI) 2026 in Jakarta on Saturday (27/6). “We are also thinking about future collaborations so that the positive outcomes generated by universities can be implemented into our existing industries,” Rosan said. Rosan acknowledged that investment and downstreaming are currently still focused on the mineral sector, but his ministry is pushing for broader development into areas such as fisheries, marine, plantations, and agriculture. “Currently, downstreaming from various sectors in Indonesia has increased from 20 percent to 30 percent,” he stated. According to Rosan, the characteristics of investment in non-mineral sectors such as palm oil, coconut, and seaweed cultivation have their own advantages, particularly in terms of massive job absorption. “The investment figures might not be as large as those in mineral downstreaming, but the job absorption can reach 10,000 people,” said Rosan, who also serves as the Head of the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Authority (Danantara). Meanwhile, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto also stated that various works produced by universities will be collaborated with Danantara. “So it is hoped that what has been produced by universities can later be partnered with Danantara,” said Minister Brian.
