Investment and Downstream Processing Minister/Head of BKPM, who is also CEO of Danantara Indonesia, Rosan P. Roeslani, has expressed appreciation for PT Vale Indonesia’s commitment to applying sustainability principles in the development of the Indonesia Growth Project (IGP) Morowali. He stated that the national downstream processing agenda must go hand in hand with environmental protection and community empowerment.

Rosan made the statement while directly inspecting the IGP Morowali project area after attending a ceremony for the arrival of an autoclave, the main equipment for the High Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) project, at the Sambalagi plant area on Wednesday (22/7/2026). During the visit, Rosan was accompanied by Danantara Indonesia officials, including Managing Director of Danantara Asset Management, Febriany Eddy. The delegation was welcomed by PT Vale Indonesia CEO Bernardus Irmanto, Chief Project Officer PT Vale Muhammad Asril, and the company’s management team.

Rosan inspected several project support facilities, including a nursery or plant propagation centre that is part of the post-mining land rehabilitation and reclamation programme. At the site, PT Vale management presented various environmental management programmes, ranging from nursery development and land reclamation to sediment pond management and environmental conservation efforts as part of the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

Rosan assessed that the application of sustainability aspects is a crucial point in the development of the mineral processing industry in Indonesia. “I am very pleased and happy to be able to see PT Vale’s site in Morowali firsthand. The thing I pay most attention to is how the sustainability aspect, which maintains a balance between the environment and social factors, is highly regarded here. We see nursery facilities, as well as the application of best mining practices with international standards. The hope is that this can be maintained,” said Rosan.

According to him, investment entering Indonesia must not only drive economic growth but also provide long-term benefits for the environment and society. “What is no less important is how we maintain harmony from the business side itself, both from the ESG aspect and from the perspective of the surrounding community. That way, incoming investment can provide sustainable benefits, not only for the company but also for the region and the community,” he stated.

In addition to inspecting the nursery facility, Rosan and his delegation visited the jetty, which serves as supporting infrastructure for the project’s operations. The group also viewed PT Vale’s mining activities from the air to monitor the implementation of responsible mining practices in the operational area.

Meanwhile, President Commissioner of PT Vale Indonesia, Fauzambi Syahrul Multhazar, assessed that the IGP Morowali project has been thoroughly prepared and is in line with the downstream processing policy being promoted by the government. “I believe this project has been well prepared, well planned, and will be well executed. Of course, this project also runs in tandem with the government’s downstream processing direction. Morowali, in my opinion, is a good pilot project,” said Fauzambi.

PT Vale stated that the project development in Morowali is not only aimed at increasing the added value of minerals through downstream processing but also at supporting sustainable development by paying attention to the balance between industrial growth, environmental sustainability, and community welfare.
