Geopolitical uncertainty and the global economic slowdown have not diminished foreign investors’ interest in investing in Indonesia. Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani revealed there are at least four factors that keep Indonesia an investment destination. According to Rosan, investors understand that every investment carries risk. However, what matters most to them is that the risk is measurable, or a calculated risk. “They know that investing definitely involves risk. But as long as the risk is what they call measurable or a calculated risk, they can build it in when they invest,” he said, quoted on Friday (17/7/2026). Additionally, Indonesia is considered to have better economic, political, and social stability compared to several countries in the region. “They see that in Indonesia, relatively compared to other ASEAN countries, we are relatively stable. Stable in terms of economic growth, also stable in terms of politics and social aspects,” Rosan said. Certainty in licensing is another factor that keeps investors confident. Rosan said the government continues to improve the investment climate, including through Government Regulation Number 28 which accelerates the licensing process. According to him, this regulation allows investment licences to be issued automatically if the relevant technical ministry does not respond within the agreed time limit. Furthermore, the government is developing the Online Single Submission (OSS) system with the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology to make the licensing process faster, more transparent, and to provide certainty to investors.
