Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani emphasised that President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Japan marked a crucial moment for strengthening investment commitments and advancing strategic projects between the two nations. The visit, held on 31 March 2026, followed up on the long-term Indonesia-Japan investment partnership while deepening economic cooperation across priority sectors. “In Japan, we successfully secured investment commitments of approximately $23.6 billion USD. Essentially, these investments will continue to flow and deliver positive impacts on the national economy,” Minister Rosan explained in an official statement received in Jakarta on Thursday. During the meetings, several Japanese companies expressed concrete commitments to strategic projects in Indonesia. In the energy sector, Tokyo Gas partnered with PLN to accelerate the development of an environmentally friendly LNG-based power plant gasification project in eastern Indonesia. Meanwhile, INPEX Corporation continued its commitment to developing the Abadi LNG Project in the Masela Block, now entering advanced technical stages. Contributions also came from Mitsui, which has been involved in various strategic projects such as power plants, fertiliser production, and the Jakarta MRT, and plans to expand investments into the digital economy, real estate, and retail sectors. Itochu is strengthening its role in electricity and geothermal energy projects, while Toyota continues to develop an ecosystem for eco-friendly vehicles through various automotive technology innovations. Overall, he noted that Japanese investment realisations in Indonesia from 2021 to 2025 amounted to $17.1 billion USD, with an average growth of 13.2 percent and the absorption of nearly 280,000 workers. Japan is currently recorded as the fifth-largest investor in Indonesia.
