PARIS – Investment and Downstreaming Minister and BKPM Head Rosan Roeslani welcomed the launch of the France–Indonesia High Level Business Council (FI-HLBC) as a strategic step to strengthen economic ties between Indonesia and France, while accelerating investment and trade implementation between the two nations.

The high-level business council was launched on Thursday (28 May 2026) in the presence of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and French President Emmanuel Macron during President Prabowo’s official state visit to France.

‘The establishment of the France–Indonesia High Level Business Council marks a significant milestone in enhancing bilateral economic partnership. This forum not only serves as a dialogue platform for business leaders but also acts as a driver for promoting investment, trade, and strategic cooperation that delivers tangible benefits for both countries,’ Rosan stated on Friday (29 May 2026).

The business forum brought together 30 top industry leaders and companies from Indonesia and France with a combined market capitalisation of $1.3 trillion. The council is co-chaired by Antoine de Saint-Affrique, Chair of the France–Indonesia Business Council at MEDEF International and CEO of Danone, and Anindya Bakrie, Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).

Rosan revealed that the council’s launch also resulted in four new commercial agreements worth $3.5 billion, focused on energy security, trade, and defence cooperation.

‘French business confidence in Indonesia continues to grow. The agreements underscore Indonesia’s status as a strategic partner with strong long-term growth prospects and a more competitive investment climate,’ Rosan said.

According to Rosan, the council will play a key role in overseeing the implementation of previous memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and investment commitments. During President Macron’s state visit to Indonesia in May 2025, 27 MoUs were signed with a value exceeding $11 billion.

‘Equally important is ensuring all commitments are fulfilled. Therefore, this forum will serve as a platform to identify barriers, accelerate the resolution of obstacles, and ensure investments proceed optimally,’ he added.

The Indonesia-France Business Council aims to triple bilateral trade by 2035. With full support from both governments, Kadin Indonesia and MEDEF International will continue strengthening the bilateral economic corridor to open new opportunities for collaboration across strategic sectors.

‘We are confident Indonesia-France economic relations will grow stronger. Collaboration between government and business is key to creating sustainable growth, generating employment, and enhancing both nations’ competitiveness amid global economic dynamics,’ Rosan concluded.
