Rosan: Giant Sea Wall Prepared to Become Economic Growth Hub
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, who is also the CEO of Danantara Indonesia, Rosan Roeslani, stated that the government is examining the development of the Giant Sea Wall project so that it not only serves as coastal protection infrastructure but also becomes a driver of new economic growth.
Rosan said the government continues to coordinate with the Head of the North Java Coast Management Authority (BOPPJ) to perfect the master plan for the project’s development.
“So it’s not just building the Giant Sea Wall itself, but also points to enhance the economy, increase investment, and provide positive impacts on the economy,” Rosan said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The Giant Sea Wall project is expected to create new economic growth, not only in Jakarta but also in other regions that will be part of the sea wall development.
The government, Rosan continued, is still conducting evaluations and in-depth studies to ensure the strategic project delivers optimal benefits, both in terms of coastal area protection and national investment enhancement.
“We are looking at it and providing input as well as conducting studies so that this can create a new economic point not only in Jakarta but also in places where the Giant Sea Wall will be built,” he added.
The construction of the Giant Sea Wall, spanning 575 kilometres along the North Coast or Pantura of Java, is divided into 15 segments.
This project not only protects factories and offices but there is life there, there is an ecosystem and ecology, and the most numerous ecosystem is fishermen.
The development of the North Java Coast coastal protection system, including the Giant Sea Wall (GSW), is part of the national strategy to maintain the sustainability of the North Java Coast civilisation.
The urgency of building the Giant Sea Wall is to protect the contribution of the North Coast (Pantura) Java region to the national gross domestic product (GDP) of around 368.3 billion US dollars.
