Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, who is both the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming and the Chief Executive Officer of Danantara, said Luke Thomas Mahony’s track record was one of the main considerations in his appointment as President Director of PT Danantara Sumber Daya Indonesia (DSI). Mahony previously served as a director at PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (INCO). ‘Yes, we consider many factors; this goes beyond the track record,’ Rosan told reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Friday, 22 May 2026.

According to Rosan, Mahony has strong experience in the mineral and trading sectors, including leadership roles at several mineral companies. He added that Mahony is regarded as having a solid network and excellent performance during his time with Danantara Indonesia. ‘The most important is his trading experience, his knowledge of minerals, and his leadership across multiple mineral companies, plus a good network. And most importantly, we have seen in his time at Danantara that his work has been very, very good,’ he said.

Rosan also noted Mahony’s experience with multinational corporations, particularly Vale Indonesia, as a factor in the appointment. He acknowledged another strength is Mahony’s command of Bahasa Indonesia. ‘He can speak Indonesian, and his wife is Indonesian,’ said the former Indonesian ambassador to the United States.
