Rosan Explains Why Luke Thomas Mahony Has Been Appointed as DSI's Chief Executive Officer
Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Chief Executive Officer of the Badan Pengelola Investasi Daya Anagata Nusantara (BPI Danantara), explained the reasons for appointing Luke Thomas Mahony as the President Director of PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI). Mahony is an Australian national who previously served as Director of PT Vale Indonesia.
According to Rosan, Mahony has a strong track record. ‘We considered many factors; we are building a track record. He also understands and has experience in multinational companies, at Vale,’ Rosan said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Friday, 22 May 2026.
Furthermore, the Minister of Investment and Hilirisasi said that although he is Australian, Mahony is fluent in Indonesian. ‘He can also speak Indonesian, and his wife is Indonesian,’ Rosan added.
However, Rosan noted that the main consideration was Mahony’s experience in mining and mineral management. Rosan also assessed that Mahony performed well during his time at Danantara. ‘The most important thing is his trading experience, his minerals experience, leadership in many mineral companies, and his network is good; we also need to see how he performed at Danantara—very, very good,’ he said.
Reportedly, Mahony’s appointment relates to the Government Regulation on the Governance of Export of Natural Resource Commodities issued by President Prabowo Subianto. The regulation designates PT DSI as the sole exporter for commodities including palm oil, coal, and iron alloys (ferro alloys).
Mahony is an Australian national who previously served as Director of PT Vale Indonesia Tbk from July 2024 to September 2025. Based on his LinkedIn profile, before becoming Chief Executive Officer of PT DSI, he served as Senior Executive Vice President for Business Performance & Optimisation at Danantara since September 2025.
