'RORO' to operate soon

Bengkulu: A specially designed roll-on, roll-off passenger
ferry, Roro, will start to ply the Bengkulu-Enggano island route.

"Hopefully, the ferry, which will take passengers from Kahyapu
seaport, will start operation tomorrow. The launching ceremony
will be presided over by the governor" Chairuddin, spokesman for
the provincial administration, said here on Tuesday.

The Rp 9 billion fast ferry, which was assembled at the Air
Kantung dockyard in Bangka, South Sumatra, has a capacity of 400
passengers and 24 cars.

The island of Enggano, located some 97 miles from the city,
covers an area of 40,000 hectares and has a population of 1800
people and six villages. --Antara
