PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) is targeting the repair of the damaged roof or ceiling in the Lounge Gate 7 of Terminal 3 Departure at Soekarno-Hatta Airport to be completed within two days. Assistant Deputy for Communication and Legal Affairs at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Yudistiawan, stated that the affected area has been localised to accelerate the repair process so it can return to normal use. “The repair will take about two days, and the area has already been secured for that process,” he said. He assured that the ceiling collapse incident due to extreme weather has not impacted the airport’s service quality. Additionally, there were no reports of injuries or fatalities in the incident. Meanwhile, material losses are still being calculated as repairs continue. Yudistiawan added that all main facilities at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, such as the runway, taxiway, and apron, are operating normally without disruptions to flight activities. “Passenger safety and security remain the top priority in every operational decision,” he said. General Manager of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Heru Karyadi, conveyed that his team is continuously coordinating with AirNav Indonesia, airlines, and other stakeholders to ensure operations remain safe and controlled amid unfavourable weather conditions. The airport is also increasing 24-hour surveillance of facilities. If any potential disruptions are found, the area will be immediately sterilised to minimise risks to passengers and workers. As a precautionary measure, airport users are advised to monitor flight information through official airline channels and arrive earlier to anticipate possible schedule adjustments due to weather. Previously, the incident occurred on Monday (6/4) around 1:40 PM WIB when heavy rain hit the airport area. A leak in the roof at Gate 7 Terminal 3 widened until the ceiling gave way and water spilled into the passenger waiting area. One passenger described the situation as quite crowded at the time, but passengers managed to save themselves as water began falling from the ceiling, causing panic. Although it briefly caused panic, airport operations continued normally without significant disruptions. (Ant/E-3)
