Roof of SMAN 7 Mataram Collapses, Central Government Disburses Rp1.75 Billion
The central government, through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, has disbursed a budget of Rp1.75 billion to repair the damaged roof of the SMAN 7 Mataram building, which collapsed some time ago. The incident also caused at least five students to sustain injuries.
Deputy Chair of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Lalu Hardian Irfani, confirmed that the signing of the contract for the SMAN 7 Mataram roof repair project has been carried out between the Ministry and the school. He explained that the funds will be transferred directly to the school’s account so that the management and repair process of the facilities and infrastructure affected by the rubble can be carried out immediately.
“Alhamdulillah, the contract has been signed. The central government decided to provide Rp1.75 billion to repair the roof of SMAN 7 Mataram which collapsed previously,” said Lalu Ari when met in Mataram, Friday (19/6/2026). The National Awakening Party politician from Central Lombok said the budget amount was approved based on calculations and the initial submission draft from the school. Even so, he did not rule out the possibility of additional budget if needed at a later date.
“Later, if for example it is still insufficient, God willing, next year we will repair it again. I have gone directly to the location and saw that the school indeed needs serious attention. Not only the roof, but other buildings also need repair,” he added.
Besides SMAN 7 Mataram, Lalu Ari also conveyed that the House is currently seeking similar assistance for SMAN 1 Lingsar, which also experienced a similar incident. “This is currently being proposed by us, hopefully within the next week, assistance from the central government can be realised,” he explained.
Responding to the many new school buildings entangled in legal issues, Lalu Ari reminded the provincial and regional governments to move quickly to resolve existing disputes. He requested all related parties, including the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, not to let legal issues drag on to the point of disrupting the teaching and learning process. “If a legal violation occurs, please resolve it immediately. Do not let the asset or building become neglected, thus disrupting the teaching and learning process for our students,” he stressed.
The chairman of the PKB Regional Leadership Council for West Nusa Tenggara also urged district/city and provincial governments to actively record schools that require immediate revitalisation. He emphasised that Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives is ready to oversee every budget proposal submitted to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education for the improvement of educational infrastructure. “The budget is still sufficiently available. Please propose it through the relevant agency to the Ministry. We in Commission X are ready to oversee it so we can bring it to the regions,” he concluded.
