Roof at SMAN 7 Mataram Suddenly Collapses, Several Students Injured by Debris
An entire roof of a classroom at SMAN 7 Mataram collapsed suddenly while students were inside, prompting them to flee outside to escape the debris. The incident occurred at the school in Ampenan, Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). A student told detikBali that they were shocked by the sudden collapse and the noise was very loud.
Video circulating online shows students scattering as the roof fell, with debris hitting chairs and desks in Class XI. Some students cried as debris injured them. Five students sustained injuries in total; four have returned home, while one is undergoing treatment and trauma care in hospital.
The Head of NTB’s Communications and Information Service, and provincial government spokesperson Ahsanul Khalik, said the initial assessment indicated that the roof structure collapsed. The building reportedly used a wooden frame with a concrete-tiled roof.
Khalik added that the NTB provincial government, through the technical team of the Dinas PUPRPKP NTB, would conduct further inspections into the collapse of two classroom buildings at SMAN 7 Mataram. He said the provincial government would also provide assistance to affected students, including covering all medical costs.
‘The Governor has directed all relevant parties to prioritise handling and support for the affected students,’ he said.
