RON 92 Fuel Prices in Indonesia's Neighbours Hit Rp21,000 per Litre

Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has revealed that the price of non-subsidised RON 92 fuel in several neighbouring countries has reached Rp20,000 to Rp21,000 per litre. Consequently, the current price of Pertamax is considered to still be below its economic price. Ministry spokesperson Dwi Anggia stated that the government’s adjustment of non-subsidised fuel prices is a moderate step to maintain a balance between energy supply sustainability and public purchasing power. “If we talk about the economic price for non-subsidised fuel, especially RON 92, looking at neighbouring countries it is in the range of Rp20,000 to Rp21,000. So the increase or adjustment made now is actually still far below the economic price,” Anggia said at the Ministry on Thursday (11 June 2026). According to her, the government’s policy is a middle ground so that all parties can survive amid the dynamics of global energy prices. Energy availability is maintained and the public is not too burdened. “The public’s purchasing power is maintained. Although there will certainly be an impact. There will inevitably be some impact. But the most important thing is that the purchasing power of vulnerable groups is protected by holding the prices of subsidised fuel for Pertalite and diesel not too high,” she said. A number of countries in Southeast Asia have raised their fuel prices recently, inseparable from the geopolitical conflict in the Middle East which has resulted in rising global crude oil prices. Indonesia has also adjusted domestic non-subsidised fuel prices through PT Pertamina (Persero), with Pertamax (RON 92) rising from Rp12,300 per litre to Rp16,250 per litre, and Pertamax Green 95 (RON 95) rising from Rp12,900 per litre to Rp17,000 per litre. Subsidised fuel prices remain unchanged, with Pertalite at Rp10,000 per litre and Biosolar at Rp6,800 per litre. Comparative data on fuel prices in Southeast Asia as of 8 June 2026 shows Malaysia with petrol at US$0.916 per litre and diesel at US$1.150; the Philippines at US$1.234 for petrol and US$1.239 for diesel; Thailand at US$1.610 for petrol and US$1.226 for diesel; Laos at US$1.779 for petrol and US$2.163 for diesel; Cambodia at US$1.546 for petrol and US$1.259 for diesel; and Myanmar at US$1.397 for petrol and US$1.351 for diesel.
