Romi the Cow Bought by Prabowo for Rp100 Million; Bogor Farmer Refuses to Mark Up the Price

Bogor, Kompas.com – Koharudin, 67, feels a mix of emotions as the cow he has cared for since it was a calf is purchased by President Prabowo Subianto to be used as an Idul Adha sacrificial animal in 2026. He says he will not raise the price despite the buyer being Indonesia’s president.

The cattle farmer from Bogor City, West Java, has cared for Romi from calf to the age of three years and three months. The animal now weighs about 1.05 tonnes, stands 165 cm tall, and has a chest girth of 200 cm.

“That isn’t sadness in quotes. Sadness would be if we couldn’t share it, but here we can provide something that is quite good,” Koharudin said when Kompas.com spoke to him at Kebon Pedes, Bogor City, on Friday (22 May 2026).

The cow was bought by the Palace for around Rp90 million to Rp100 million. Koharudin did not disclose Romi’s sale price. He explained that he chose not to mark up the price of the cow he has cared for because it was bought by President Prabowo Subianto. He added that, aside from that, the animal is not a contest cow that would command a higher price.

“That means a cow that was not in a contest. If it had the same weight up to one tonne or more, the price could be higher because there is added value in terms of it being a champion in a contest,” he said.

“But if it is in this condition, a healthy cow, we use the standard real price. Moreover, the Banpres programme is for social assistance. So it isn’t in my heart to inflate it.”

‘Romi’ has also fulfilled the requirements of an Animal Health Certificate (Surat Keterangan Kesehatan Hewan, SKKH) with faecal and blood examinations conducted by Balitvet Bogor over a full day. Koharudin said he did not feed the cow any special or supplementary feeds. “Feed is normal. It is basically concentrates and forage,” he added. “For example, even Aa isn’t allowed to come and see me. That is one of the protective measures,” he explained.
