Manager of PLN UP3 Serpong, Beny Indra Praja, stated in a written release on Friday, 19 June 2026, that the measure was taken to maintain the reliability and stability of the electricity system. He added that PLN continues to coordinate with all relevant parties to ensure optimal handling and maintain supply reliability.

PLN Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications and TJSL, Gregorius Adi Trianto, revealed that the rolling blackouts occurring in several areas of Java were triggered by disruptions at two major power plants that are currently unable to operate. He explained that the disruptions have reduced the electricity supply capacity of the Java system, forcing the company to implement temporary load management to balance supply and demand.

“This step was taken because there are operational technical constraints at the power plants and two major generating units experienced disruptions, so they are temporarily not operating and this has reduced the system’s electricity supply capability,” he said.

These rolling blackouts have been ongoing since 8 June. Besides the Greater Jakarta area, the intermittent power cuts have also occurred in several areas of East Java, Central Java, and West Java.
